Ven. Lama Jigme Rinpoche

Venerable Lama Jigme Namgyal Rinpoche was born in Amdo, Tibet in 1956. With the help of his family he was able to study with his teachers, Rigdzin Jigme and Rikung Aku Sherab, throughout his childhood. Afterward, he went into retreat in mountains, caves and forests for over ten years, where he accomplished a deep realization of compassion and emptiness. Subsequently, he moved back to his birthplace and on to Lhasa, where he lived for about 5 years. He received numerous transmissions from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and, in 1991, after many difficulties, made his way to Dharamsala, India.

After teachings from the Dalai Lama, Penor Rinpoche and Khamtrul Rinpoche, His Holiness verified Lama’s understanding of Buddhist values like compassion and emptiness. He was exceptionally touched by his answers. He decided to build Padma Rigdzin Ling Monastery in the forest in Dharamsala for Rinpoche to carry out his practices and ceremonies.

Venerable Lama Jigme spent over 13 year as the abbot of the Temple. There were three main reasons his students brought him to the U. S. These were: (1)his wish to spread the message of the Dalai Lama around the world., (2)a desire to help the poor and suffering and (3)several differences with foolish people.

He taught Tibetan Yoga and Buddhist Meditation at the Bushidokan Martial Arts Dojo for four years in Reno, Nevada. He founded Ocean Lotus and Padma Rigdzin Ling Buddhist Church with the help of his students, after moving to Northern Idaho.

Today, he carries out his life as a respectable Lama in Las Vegas, Nevada meditating everyday from 4:30 am to 11:00 am, teaching in the afternoons and performing Buddhist ceremonies on a regular basis. The wisdom he has cultivated through his studies, retreats, travels and life have given him the opportunity to reach all kinds of human beings, despite their religious and cultural backgrounds. Venerable Lama Jigme Rimpoche gives motivational speeches to children, the mentally disabled and those in despair by sharing with them his touching and kind words.

Paul and I live three miles outside of Nevada City, California. We have a shrine to Guru Rinpoche on our land…..larger than life size, sculpted by Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche in 1983. Our land was blessed by H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche back in the 70s. We also studied with Lama Gonpo Tsetan from Labrang, Amdo……..a Nyingtig Lama.We have hosted many lamas in the past and have also raised five children and have a small publishing company. We hope to meet Rinpoche sometime in the next month or two. We will drive to Reno for a teaching sometime. All our best wishes, in the Dharma, Nancy and Paul

I appreciated Geshe`Jigme’s instructions the most previous time you hosted him, which was my first time meeting this Lama.

He had most important instructions on the need to prepare oneself properly for teachings…i.e., not to move forward until ready…for these are serious commitments and not to be taken frivilously. This is true for all teachings.
I feel, also true, that as Lama implored, nothing intellectual can bear full fruition unless proper meditation is practiced on a regular basis.

All teachings coming from accomplished teachers of verified lineages, are precious and to be treated as such with true desire, honest effort and pure heart.

I had a most profound experience with Lama visiting the Dojo in Quincy, to share yoga instructions and practices. I look forward to the next time I will see him. I honor and cherish him!
